Description:
If you need to measure the temperature of a thermocouple, this is the board for you! The MAX31855 connects directly to a K-type thermocouple for temperature measurement, and is the successor to Maxim's MAX6675 IC. It has a simple, read-only SPI interface for getting the temperature of both the chip's internal temperature and the thermocouple temperature.
Note: This device can ONLY be run in 3.3V systems! Neither the supply voltage nor the I/O pins support 5V!
Features:
Thermocouple temperature measurement has 14-bit accuracy (1 sign bit, 11 whole-number bits, and 2 fractional bits), and can read from -270C to +1800C
Junction temperature has 12-bit accuracy (1 sign bit, 7 whole-number bits, and 4 fractional bits)
Chip monitors if the thermocouple is shorted to VCC or GND and if the thermocouple is not connected
Ships with a 10 nF disc capacitor that can be connected in parallel with the thermocouple in case the thermocouple temperature doesn't match the junction temperature at ambient conditions
